Inspiration and instruction
A good part of a membership with Mass Hort involves inspiration and instruction. Here is what is in store for you during the year to inspire you to do more in your garden or just enjoy the work of other passionate gardeners.
Tickets to the Boston Flower & Garden Show
In March, when the winter is still with us, but the hint of Spring is in the air, you will be given a complimentary ticket or tickets to the Boston Flower & Garden Show. The show is a feast for the senses as you experience the latest in garden and flower design, see what other gardeners are growing and attend lectures on all of the topics of interest to gardeners.
Free entry to the Gardens at Elm Bank
Another source for inspiration is our own Gardens at Elm Bank. Our ten unique gardens are located in 37 acres on the former Elm Bank Estate. Each garden is designed to help you learn about the plants that thrive in the New England climate. We have the All-American Selections Trial Garden where we test new and unreleased varieies of annuals. The Bressingham Garden is a magnificent four-season display garden designed by world-renowned nurseryman and designer, Adrian Bloom. Our Weezie's Children's Garden contains a series of small spiraling gardens each with its unique theme. The Italianate Garden was designed by the Olmsted Brothers firm and is the sites example of a formal garden. Other gardens include the Goddess Garden, the Jim Crockett Memorial Garden and the Garden to Table Vegetable Garden.
Organic Gardening Magazine
Organic Gardening has a hands-in-the-soil approach to gardening and will provide you with excellent advice on everything from food, landscaping, pest and weed control, and soils. The magazine has well-researched, in-depth reporting on the best plants to grow in their conditions, tips and techniques for keeping plants healthy, plus ideas for sustainable living indoors and out. Organic Gardening also features a Complete Beginner's Guide: Everything you need to know to succeed in your first season. From how to set up your first bed to what to plant to where to shop, we take you by the hand and help you make the smartest choices. Even old hands will learn a new trick or two.
Discounted fees and tickets for Mass Hort classes and events
Your membership also includes discounts for entry to the weekly lecture series "Thursdays at the Hort," where you will learn about all things horticultural and gardening. You will also get preferable pricing for our Garden to Table classes and programs and reduced ticket prices for our many events during the year.
