Q. What is the rental time of the Hunnewell Building (Carriage House)?
A. We have two rates: 5 hours & 9 hours:
- Weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s…etc will need the 9 hours, as those hours include set-up time for vendors (caterer, florist, DJ/band).
- If you are looking to host a corporate meeting, you may be interested in our 5 hour rate.
- All events must end by 11:30 p.m.
Q. What are the maximum capacity numbers of the Hunnewell Building?
A. The Hunnewell Building can accommodate 160 guests for a seated dinner, while it can accommodate 200 for a stand-up reception. If using the attached three-season tent, both rooms can accommodate up to 225 for a seated dinner and 400 for a stand-up reception.
Q. What does the rental fee include?
A. The rental fee includes the rental of the Hunnewell Building, the attached three-season tent (April 15th through November 1st) and all of the grounds. It also comes with 60 inch round tables, 6ft and 8ft banquet tables, and green upholstered banquet chairs.
Q. Is there an off-season rate?
A. Yes. November 1 thru April 30 is considered our off-season and the rate for the rental of the Hunnewell Building is $3,500.
Q. Can wedding ceremonies be held on site?
A. Yes, you may use one of our beautiful gardens for a ceremony. There is no additional charge for the use of the gardens.
Q. Are wedding ceremony rehearsals allowed?
A. Yes. You must work with the Functions Manager as to when to schedule the rehearsal as there may be an event scheduled the day before your event that you must work around.
Q. Is the dance floor included in the rental price?
A. No, the dance floor is not included in the rental price. It is $1,000 to rent the hardwood, 19ft x 21ft dance floor.
Q. Can I use a Caterer of my choice?
A. Yes, but we strongly recommend using a caterer from our preferred list. If you do wish to use a caterer off our preferred list, there is a charge of $1000.
Q: Who manages the food service and flow of events?
A: The caterer is responsible for the flow of all scheduled events and will insure that the event timeline is followed as closely as possible. The band/D.J. is responsible for making all announcements such as bridal dances, cake cutting, last dance, etc.
Q. Is there parking available for guests?
A. Yes, there is free parking available in the MHS lots, adjacent to the Hunnewell Building for up to 125 cars. If more space is needed, please contact the Functions Manager.

Q. Is your site handicapped accessible?
A. Yes, the Hunnewell Building has a ramp and a handicapped accessible bathroom. Guests who cannot walk from the parking area to the Hunnewell Building may be dropped off at the front doors.
Q. Do you have any restrictions concerning guest transportation?
A. Yes, if you wish to hire shuttle transportation to bring your guests to and from their hotels, you cannot use a vehicle which weighs over 12 tons (24,000 lbs) as it cannot make entry onto MHS property over the Washington Street entrance bridge.
