Education & Classes

In effort to serve Mass Hort’s mission to develop the public’s understanding of plants and the environment, we host classes throughout the year for all interest levels.

We offer hands-on workshops as well as lectures, classes for vegetable growers, potted ornamental enthusiasts, and home-owners looking to boost their curb appeal. We have everything from botanical art workshops and book signings to floral design courses and composting classes.

A Camel's Garden
Thursday 04 May 2017, 07:00pm - 08:30pm

Where: The Gardens at Elm Bank - Parkman Room

When the dog days of summer hit, many of us are faced with water bans that limit our ability to water our lush gardens. We find ourselves carefully monitoring the water level in rain barrels and hoping for the next rainfall. What if we started to incorporate plants that just need less water? In this lecture, I will share the effects of drought on woody plants and describe plant adaptations for dealing with drought. Most importantly, I will introduce you to a new palette of plant material that will decrease your water use while increasing species diversity and beauty in your home landscape.
