In effort to serve Mass Hort’s mission to develop the public’s understanding of plants and the environment, we host classes throughout the year for all interest levels.

We offer hands-on workshops as well as lectures, classes for vegetable growers, potted ornamental enthusiasts, and home-owners looking to boost their curb appeal. We have everything from botanical art workshops and book signings to floral design courses and composting classes.

Bartlett's Web-Based Tree Inventory and Management Plan
Tuesday 18 October 2016, 02:00pm - 04:00pm

Please join us for this free lecture to learn more about Bartlett's Web-Based Tree Inventory and Management Plan

Tuesday, October 18, 2-4pm.
Parkman Room, Education Center,
Mass Hort's Gardens at Elm Bank
900 Washington St.
Wellesley, MA

The Bartlett Inventory Solutions presentation will cover all aspects of tree inventories in general, and cover more Bartlett specific aspects and deliverables.  The presentation will begin with talking about why trees are important, why maintaining them is important, how maintaining them and starting when they are young is beneficial, and how that all ties into inventories. Tree Inventories, Management Plans, Management Software, and Risk Assessments are intended to provide the basic information on the plant population of a commercial, municipal, or institutional property to make informed management decisions. Inventories and assessments can supply information on condition, size, and maintenance requirements, and risk.

We will then cover some tree inventory basics, basic goals and benefits.  From there we will talk about different approaches that can be taken.  We will get into more Bartlett specifics covering our process and what the actual inventory and timeline would look like.  We will cover the final deliverables and then go over our tree inventory management program ArborScope™ to demonstrate its effectiveness at keeping tree information up-to-date and how it can be used to engage multiple other parties, like students and the public.”

ArborSonic 3D device we will be demonstrating.

The device is used to get an idea of the internal condition of a tree and how much decay may be present.  Sensors are tapped into a tree and soundwaves are generated.  The software then interpolates the information to provide an estimated amount of internal decay and produces a visual image.  This tool will help managers make more informed decisions when it comes to tree risk and risk mitigation.
