The Mass Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society invites all Mass Hort members to a lecture by Steve Henning on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in the Putnam Building at Elm Bank. Steve’s topic is "The Rhododendrons and Gardens of Scotland."
Steve is currently the president of the Valley Forge, PA Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society and a Bronze Medal recipient. This past spring, Steve and Don Hyatt were instrumental in saving the Glenn Dale collection of azaleas in the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. He and his wife Darlene visited during the peak of the rhododendron blooming season 9 well-known historic Scots gardens, such as the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh and Glenroick Gardens.
These gardens are home to many original rhododendrons brought to the U.K. by plant explorers from all over the world, including 70 species that are parents of many of the hybrids that we enjoy on this side of the Atlantic. Steve will also show us photos of such companion plants as the Himalayan Poppy (Meconopsis betonicifolia)) and six varieties of Trillium.
Please join us for a wonderful trip to Scotland. |
