Holiday Gifts from the Garden and the Heart
Thursday, October 20 2011, 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Mass Hort in conjunction with the Wellesley Free Library's Wellesley Reads Together program presents an evening of demonstrations on creating holiday gifts. The event will feature instructions and samples. Please note the event will be held at the Wellesley Free LIbrary.

Advanced signup is encouraged

The presenters and topics are:

Carrie Waterman: How to Make Red Pepper Flakes

Gold Medal winner and horticulturalist, Carrie Waterman, will teach a very easy method to make your own chili pepper flakes. Homemade chili flakes make excellent holiday gifts. The freshly ground flakes last for a long time and add wonderful vibrancy to many dishes. Information about growing your own chili plants, seed sources, and propagation methods will be shared.

Ann McCaffery: Pressed Flower Design

Owner of Natural Pressings and pressed flower designer, Ann will demonstrate different techniques for pressing flowers using microwave, air press, and wood press. She will talk about the best time to harvest your flowers and about how to preserve them.

Natural Pressings offers cards made with real pressed flowers as well as cards that are prints. You, too, will learn to make your own cards.

Karen O'Brien: Herbal Vinegars

Owner of The Green Woman's Garden, http://greenwomansgarden.com, Karen's specialty is working with herbs and flowers. She is a lecturer and writer and gives demonstrations on gardening and herbal products. She is Vice Chair, New England Unit of The Herb Society of America and Development Chair of The Herb Society of America. Karen will demonstrate making multipurpose herb vinegar for cleaning, facials "Queen of Hungary", and culinary uses.

A Garden to Table event.
