The theme of the evening will be potatoes, that staple of the garden and the kitchen.
Evening Highlights:
6:30 PM: Studio tours and light refreshments
7:00 PM: Welcome by WGBH 89.7’s Sunday Concert host Ron Della Chiesa.
Crockett's Victory Garden: Episode 101
Originally aired April 1976, and featuring the show’s first host, Jim Crockett, this episode was the first to be broadcast nationally on PBS. In it, Crockett gives viewers a tour of the original “victory garden.” He discusses early-spring lawn care, planting potatoes, and answers questions from viewers. After his death in 1979, the show was renamed The Victory Garden.
The French Chef with Julia Child: “The Potato Show”
Enter a culinary time capsule and see Julia Child, the practical chef who brought French cuisine into American kitchens without a dash of pretension, in vintage black and white. Originally aired October 1963, Child’s dry humor and congeniality are in full bloom in this early episode, as she leads viewers through classic potato recipes, including potato pancakes.
8:30 PM: Tour of archive vault for interested guests
