Lilio narcissus, West Indische rothe lilie, or West Indian Amarylis, hand-colored by George Dionysius Ehret (1708-1770). The engraver was F. M. Seligman. Appeared in Hortus Nitidissimis, published in 3 volumes by Christoph J. Trew between 1750 and 1786. These volumes aimed to capture flowers at the peak of their beauty.
Ehret was born in Germany and spent his middle years in Holland. There he became the artist most associated Linnaeus, and when he ended his career in London, he was considered the single most important botanical artist of his era.
