Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions

The volunteer needs of Mass Hort change according to the season and event.  Below are general descriptions of the kinds of volunteer positions we typically need to fill.  For current Volunteer Opportunities, please visit the current opportunities page.

Elm Bank Gardening
Horticulture volunteers work outside in a variety of weather conditions performing such tasks as planting, weeding, and deadheading. Gardening experience is helpful though not a requirement.  Volunteers must be able to bend, kneel, and lift 15 pounds.

Event Registration & Admissions
Meet and greet the public at our events, such as the Festival of Trees, Mass Marketplace, and lecture series.  Qualifications are a friendly and welcoming manner and ability to work a cash box.

Event Shift Supervisor
Greet volunteers as they arrive and make sure they sign in.  Ensure that volunteers understand their tasks and have everything they need.

Event Photographer
Attend Mass Hort events and take digital photographs of working volunteers, being sure to get names.  The photographs will be considered for use on the website.

Writer
Attend Mass Hort events and write brief articles for the website and social media about volunteers at these events and/or feature articles about specific volunteers. Volunteers must write clearly and concisely and able to submit articles electronically.

Office Assistant
Help with administrative tasks as required in the areas of membership and marketing.  Duties may include making or taking phone calls, processing mailings, entering data, filing, and working on special projects.  Volunteers with computer skills, marketing experience, and/or a pleasant phone manner are especially valuable.

Volunteer Committee Member

Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to administer the Volunteers program, including recordkeeping, recruiting, supervising, and planning.  Chief qualification is enjoying work with volunteers.The volunteer needs of Mass Hort change according to the season and event.  Below are general descriptions of the kinds of volunteer positions we typically need to fill.
