Flower Show to Honor Earth's Most Loved (and Hated) Creatures
138th New England Spring Flower Show
March 14th through the 22nd
Bayside Expo Center, Boston

Wellesley, MA May 1, 2008 – The Massachusetts Horticultural Society has announced the theme for its 138th New England Spring Flower Show. This year's show, “Heroes & Villains,” will pay tribute to the people, creatures, and things that support us and attempt to thwart us in our quest for horticultural perfection.

Life in the garden is fraught with dramas large and small. This year’s show will pay homage to influential designers and revered plantsmen, as well as the venerable divas and often-overlooked supporting players of the plant and insect world. And every drama needs its conflict, so the region’s most talented gardeners, designers, and horticulturists will offer tips for foiling the thugs and bullies that bring both comedy and tragedy to our lawns and gardens.

An annual rite of spring and one of Boston’s most enduring traditions, the New England Spring Flower Show, returning this year to the Bayside Expo Center, has become the true symbol of spring’s arrival for almost 100,000 winter-weary New Englanders and Boston visitors. The show is now in its 138th year and has grown to be the third largest flower show in the world.

As in past years, the show will feature beautiful garden exhibits, professional and amateur competitions, entertainment and information-sharing, as well as a great selection of special events, expert lectures, and live musical performances.

The Flower Show will take place from Saturday, March 14 to Sunday, March 22 at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston. The Massachusetts Horticultural Society produces the New England Spring Flower Show annually. Proceeds benefit MHS projects and programs, including research initiatives, horticultural education for children and adults, development of MHS gardens on the Greenway and the MHS Horticulture Center in Wellesley.
